Who beat OpenAI's coding agent at International Coding Competition?

The first time an AI took part in a live, elite coding competition without human help. OpenAI's autonomous coding agent finished second at the AtCoder World Tour Finals in Tokyo, marking an important milestone for AI. 

After an exhausting 10-hour competition, Polish programmer Psyho came out on top with a 9.5% lead, declaring, "Humanity has won (for now!)." Competitors guided digital robots through challenging optimization tasks. With a score sufficient for fifth place, Sakana AI's ALE-Agent showed remarkable performance. 

Perhaps the last human triumph in competitive programming, the event demonstrates how close AI is to overtaking the best human programmers.
